Christ Church
Congratulations on your engagement to be married! Since you are interested in a Christian wedding, let me summarize what this means from my perspective as an Anglican priest.
Marriage is a sacrament - a visible sign of spiritual grace. Marriage is one of seven sacraments (the others being Baptism, confirmation, Holy Communion, Penance, the anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders). Ironically, while our culture has become skeptical and forgetful of these other sacraments, it celebrates marriage with increasing ostentation and expense. But this is backwards from a Christian perspective because the sacraments of priority - that is, the two sacraments instituted by Christ for our salvation - are baptism and communion.
Still, just as baptism and communion are the sacraments of new life in Christ, so marriage is the sacrament of new Christian family and therefore deserves a joyful celebration (preferably in the church where you regularly worship). If you wish to be married at Christ Church, please read the following application carefully, noting that we need pages 2 and 3 completed in full as well as the booking fee of $60 before we can enter your date in our parish calendar.
Fr. Paul Maynard
Rector of Christ Church

Anglican Rules, Provincial Laws, and Points of Protocol
- The wedding will be conducted according to the rites of the Anglican Church of Canada, in the form of The Book of Common Prayer (1962) or The Book of Alternative Services (1985). For details re: music, etc., see The Book of Alternative Services, p. 527.
- Applicants must be baptized. If neither person is baptized, the couple cannot be married in the Anglican Church. If only one is baptized, the matter may be referred to the Bishop.
- The Rector of Christ Church will be fully responsible for the conduct of the service and all wedding activities that take place on Christ Church premises.
- The Christ Church organist is the organist and music director at all Christ Church weddings whenever there is music of any kind.
- Couples must apply no less than 30 days before the proposed wedding date, unless special permission is granted by the Bishop.
- Applicants must have formal marriage preparation sessions with Fr. Kevin, or show signed documentation of marriage preparation elsewhere. In either case, the Rector may deny the application for pastoral reasons; that is, if the couple does not seem suitable or ready for marriage. So please do not send out your wedding invitations before you have been assured that Fr. Kevin will in fact marry you. Please also note that it is the responsibility of the couple to call the parish office in plenty of time before the wedding to arrange the marriage preparation sessions.
- Divorced persons applying for marriage must show legal documentation of the divorce to the Rector. Be prepared for a serious discussion of the previous relationship and the divorce, with both applicants present.
- No person under 16 years of age may marry. Persons 16 or 17 years of age may marry only with the written permission of their parents/legal guardians. Consent forms are available for this purpose at the Municipal Office.
- Applicants must purchase their own marriage licence at an Ontario Municipal Office. The licence must be purchased within 3 months of the wedding, and must be forwarded to the Rector before the rehearsal. (See the attached documents Requirements for Obtaining a Marriage Licence and Marriage Licence Application.)
- All weddings at Christ Church are public services. The priest may officiate at weddings outside of parish premises only with the Bishop’s permission. Outside weddings will also be conducted according to Anglican guidelines and according to the same fee schedule (including the booking fee and the church donation fees in full).
- Full payment according to the Christ Church fee schedule will be made no later than the wedding rehearsal, or the wedding may be cancelled.
We accept the preceding rules, laws, and protocols, having read them carefully:

A. Suitable Readings
Genesis 1:27-28 & 31a
A reading from the book of Genesis
So God created humankind in his image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
God blessed them, and God said to them,
‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it;
and have dominion over the fish of the sea and
over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.’
God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.
And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
The word of the Lord.Tobit 8: 5b-8
A reading from the book of Tobit
So she got up, and they began to pray and implore that they might be kept safe.
Tobias began by saying,
‘Blessed are you, O God of our ancestors,
and blessed is your name in all generations for ever.
Let the heavens and the whole creation bless you for ever.
You made Adam, and for him you made his wife Eve
as a helper and support.
From the two of them the human race has sprung.
You said, “It is not good that the man should be alone;
let us make a helper for him like himself.”
I now am taking this kinswoman of mine,
not because of lust,
but with sincerity.
Grant that she and I may find mercy
and that we may grow old together."
And they both said, 'Amen, Amen.'
The word of the Lord.
Romans 12:1-2 & 9-13A reading from the letter to the Romans
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
The word or the Lord1 Corinthians 13
A reading from the letter to the Corinthians
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
The word of the Lord.Ephesians 3: 14-19
A reading from the letter to the Ephesians
.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
The word of the LordColossians 3: 12-17
A reading from the letter to the Colossians
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in you hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to god. and whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
The word of the Lord.1 John 4: 7-12
A reading from the letter to the Colossians
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
The word of the Lord.B. Suitable Psalms
Psalm 67
May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
That your way may be known upon earth,
your liberating power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with integrity
and govern the nations upon earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
Then the earth will yield its fruitfulness;
and God, our God, will bless us.
God shall bless us;
and all the ends of the earth will fear him.Psalm 112
O praise the Lord.
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord :
and greatly delights in his commandments.
His children shall be mighty in the land :
a race of upright men who will be blessed.
Riches and plenty shall be in his house :
and his righteousness stands for ever.
Light arises in darkness for the upright :
gracious and merciful is the righteous man.
It goes well with the man who acts generously and lends :
who guides his affairs with justice.
Surely he shall never be moved :
the righteous shall be held in everlasting remembrance.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.Psalm 148
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens;
O praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
O praise him, all his host!
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you stars of light!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters that are above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were made.
He established them for ever and ever;
he made and ordinance which cannot be passed
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.Psalm 150
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in firmament! of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts;
praise him according to his abundant goodness.
Praise him in the blast of the ran's horn;
praise him upon lute and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dances;
praise him upon the strings and pipe.
Praise him on the high-sounding cymbals;
praise him upon loud cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
O praise the Lord.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
