OUTREACH

We give thanks for the many ways we are able to fulfill our mission through the Outreach ministry of Christ church.  Outreach expresses the love of Christ, is at the heart of who we are, and is led by highly-motivated volunteers

Out of the Cold

Housed at Morrison Street United Church, this programmed was begun by Fr. Duncan and other concerned Christ Church parishioners.

Pastoral Care Team

The revitalization of our Pastoral Care Team is a very helpful development.  Team members meet monthly to discuss and implement ways to be of service.  The mission of the Pastoral Team is to "to bring the love of Christ and the Church to all parishioners, especially when they are parenting., sick, elderly, dying, or grieving."  To that end, the Pastoral Care Team has established a cradle roll so that each child who has been baptised here in recent years will receive a card on the anniversary of their baptism and an invitation to Sunday School when they turn four years of age.  One team member has begun another card ministry, sending cards to different people in the congregation just to let them know that they are remembered and prayed for.  The team also makes Christmas cards which are then signed by many parishioners and sent along with cards from the Sunday School, to all those unable to come to Christmas services.  Visiting, phoning, and caring for people in numerous ways are what this Pastoral Care Team is all about.
Most of the ministry of Pastoral Care happens behind the scenes.  Much of this ministry is also confidential.  Nevertheless, extending the care of the parish and the love of Christ to people going through difficult times is most important.  A large portion of clergy time is used in this ministry of visiting, listening, and bringing the sacraments to people in need. Donations to this ministry extend the love of Christ beyond the walls of the church.

Project Share

A community based project that provides food supplies to the needy.  Each week we collect food items in a basket in the Narthex.  This food is donated to Project Share to help stock their shelves.

Hanna House

Hannah House provides new single moms with support for newborns.  This includes food, clothing, social support.  Our major fundraiser is the annual baby bottle drive where members take home a baby bottle and for one month throw their loose change in the bottle and return it.  All donations over $10 receive a charitable donations receipt

Ryan's Well Foundation:

Ryan's Well Foundation:  In 1997 six year old Ryan of Kempville, Ontario heard from his teacher that people were dying in Africa because they didn't have clean water.  Ryan was told that it took $70 to build a well.  Ryan decided to build a well.  It took him 4 months to raise the $70.  He then learned that it took $2000 to build a well.  He convinced his school to help him.  It took a year to raise the money.  His first well was built in Northern Uganda where his pen pal Jimmy Ukana lived.  The word spread since then and the foundation has built 266 wells in 12 countries in Asia, Africa and South America, bringing clean water to nearly a half a million people.  Jimmy Akana now lives with Ryan because of the troubles in Uganda.  Ryan continues to work to bring clean water to people in need.  A well costs between $200 and $10,000 depending on the location.
